Office employee on a useless Teams meeting starts cleaning and talking nonsense to their cat throughout, only to find out they were not muted and have their boss hear and comment on it: 'No, you can't eat plastic. You tiny moron'

You know those at-home office meetings… the ones during which you don't have to turn on your camera or your mic, you know- the ones that feel completely unnecessary? Could have been an email instead? Yeah, those ones. You know what makes them better? Having cats. Cats somehow sense when you are in a meeting, and for some reason, cats want to be part of your Zoom meetings. We don't know why, but we don't argue. If this is what makes our cats cuddle with us, then we have no problem.

There is only one risk when it comes to this. Letting your cat distract you during a meeting means that… you sometimes, might forget that you're on camera or that your mic is on. You just don't think about it. Because you're not listening. You're just looking at your cat. And well, this person learned the consequences of that quite fast and quite hard. We've been there, friend, just not quite this badly.

  • We can't say that we have not been there. Because we have. Just… not quite this badly. Our cat has meowed during work meetings before, when we forgot the mic on, but we did not do the rest of it. And we don't know how showed your face back at work after this.

    So I (28M) work from home. I use wireless earbuds to take calls because I hate sitting still. I like to pace around while talking, clean the kitchen, or chase my cat out of forbidden zones.

    Yesterday we had a big Teams call. Cameras off. One of those "Quarterly Strategy Syncs" that basically translates to a 40- minute word salad from upper management and 10 minutes of questions no one wants to ask.

    baroaureus Fwiw Teams is really good at hiding audio that's not talking. I've been on calls where people have sneezed, wheezed, choked on food - and all you hear is de d silence. I'm guessing your "that was bold" exclamation would have been heard with no "other sounds" to give it context. In a way, that might make this even funnier.

    Northernwarrior- Just a couple weeks ago I was the presenter and the meeting host had a graphic conversation with her colleague about giving birth unmuted that the 100+ attendees got to listen to until she got the messages that everyone could hear her. It happens.

  • We appreciate the internet for sharing more stories along this line. Makes us feel better about the few mishaps that we had in our own work lives. Because these are worse, and we wish all of you a lot more luck in your lives than you have had thus far.
